AI Horror Short created for the Curious Refuge AI Filmmaking Competition
Clown Your Sorrows is an AI-generated horror short film created for the Curious Refuge AI Filmmaking Competition. Developed in collaboration with Sebastian Grey and Haydn Rushworth, the film explores the haunting tension between inner fear and external performance — using the eerie symbolism of a clown. As the AI Lead Generator, I was responsible for producing all visuals and animations, shaping the tone and texture of the film. The project earned an Honorable Mention from Project Odyssey and was shortlisted for the AIMI Awards.
Creative Process
- Concept, Storyboarding & Prompt Development: Collaboratively developed the narrative structure and horror theme. Used ChatGPT and Storywork to brainstorm scenes, characters, tone, and text-to-image prompts.
- Visuals & Design: A hybrid design process using MidJourney, Artspace AI, Leonardo AI, Magnific AI, Canva Magic AI, and Photoshop to create rich, unsettling visuals.
- Animation & Motion: Image-to-video and motion sequences generated using Runway Gen 3, Minimax, and Kling AI to amplify emotional pacing and tension.
- Editing: All scenes were upscaled using Topaz AI and professionally edited in DaVinci Resolve, with focus on color grading, timing, and cohesion.
- Sound & Music: ElevenLabs provided voiceovers and sound textures, while music and ambient effects were crafted with PremiumBeat and Soundstripe for an immersive horror atmosphere.
